Samantha Mirante Awarded Florida Structural Engineers Association Scholarship

Samantha Mirante, BSCE ’19, has been awarded a $1,500 Florida Structural Engineers Association (FSEA) Scholarship provided to a junior, senior or grad student with emphasis in structural engineering who has been a Florida resident for the last two years. The recipient must have a minimum GPA 2.5 with a minimum of 3.0 in engineering courses. This scholarship will fund future research activities, such as attending conferences and presenting papers.

A well-rounded student, Mirante’s resume includes research experience in Ali Ghahremaninezhad, assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, Advanced Materials Research Lab. Mirante is also active in numerous UM professional chapters and honor societies including Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, Golden Key, American Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, American Concrete Institute, Miami Motion Dance Team, the Department for Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement.

The FSEA was formed in 1996 to enhance the profession of structural engineering in the State of Florida. FSEA provides input and leadership on building codes and their enforcement, sponsors technical seminars and roundtable discussions, and organizes informal mixers to facilitate networking between peers. FSEA’s goal is to join together all Florida structural engineers and to address common concerns of the profession.
