Why did you apply to be a student ambassador?
I wanted to get involved in the College of Engineering and be able to help new and prospective students navigate the engineering school early on.
What advice would you offer to new engineering students?
Put in the effort to get good grades and pay attention to everything in class. It may seem difficult at first, but it gets easier with time. You start learning core information early on that you will need for the rest of your career.
What do you feel is unique about being a student at UM College of Engineering?
You get to study and work with other driven students and grow really close to them.
Describe what you are doing in this position.
I am reaching out to prospective and future College of Engineering students to show them all the opportunities available to them at the University of Miami.
What did you learn at CoE that has helped you in your position?
I learned that each department is unique and has its own culture, but they all work together to keep every single student’s best interest in mind. I had resources and connections that allowed me to find the path that I really wanted to follow. Many of my professors are very supportive of my chosen path, and that helps me stick to my rigorous studies.
Which College student organization stands out to you and why?
I think the Florida Water Environment Association stands out because the organization has grown a lot recently. We have recently been named the official environmental organization for the Butler Center, so we’re currently expanding to become a service-driven club, not just an engineering club.
What do you feel you are getting out of this position?
This position has allowed me to expand my horizons and networking abilities, which also allows me to help my Foote Fellow mentees do the same.
Why has this been a good experience for you?
I got to be a representative for our College and university. Besides that, I improved my public-speaking skills, which will be helpful in my future career as an attorney.
What did you do during your Summer 2017 break? (please be specific in regards to work/internship, company, etc.)
I interned at Globaltech Inc., an environmental engineering firm in Boca Raton. I also studied for and took the LSAT and finished my law school applications.
